Viewing Submission History
What this is
The Past Submissions page shows a complete record of every submission you have made to HMRC through Aligned. It serves as your audit trail - showing what was filed, when, and for which period. You can drill into any submission to see its full details and HMRC’s response.
What you see on screen
The submissions page at /app/submissions shows:
- What HMRC has on file - a live view of the cumulative data HMRC holds for each of your income sources
- How quarterly updates work - an explainer banner for reference
- Your submission history - a chronological list of all submissions with:
- Submission date and time
- Quarterly period covered
- Income type (self-employment, UK property, foreign property)
- Status (submitted, accepted)
- Key totals (income, expenses)
If you’re an accountant
You can filter submissions by client using the client selector at the top of the page. This lets you focus on one client’s filing history at a time, or view all submissions across your practice.
If you’re filing for yourself
You see only your own submissions. There is no client filter because all submissions belong to your own tax record.

How to use submission history
View submission details
Click on any submission in the list to open a detailed view showing:
- The full breakdown of income and expense figures that were submitted
- HMRC’s response and acknowledgement
- The original uploaded file reference
- The correlation ID from HMRC for reference
Check what HMRC has on file
The “What HMRC Has on File” section at the top shows the current cumulative data HMRC holds for each income source. This is live data from HMRC, not just what Aligned has sent - so it includes any submissions made outside Aligned.
Correct and resubmit
If you spot an error in a past submission, you can:
- Note which obligation period needs correcting
- Go to Upload Quarterly Data in the sidebar
- Upload corrected data for that same period
- The new submission will replace the previous one with HMRC
Things to know
- Submission history is your audit trail. Keep it as a record of what was filed and when. HMRC can ask for evidence of your digital records.
- Externally-filed obligations - if an obligation was fulfilled through a different MTD application (not Aligned), it will show in your Quarterly Statuses but may not appear in your Aligned submission history.
- The “What HMRC Has on File” section is live. It queries HMRC directly, so it reflects the most up-to-date cumulative figures, including amendments.
FAQ
Why does my submission history not show a submission I made?
If you submitted through a different MTD application, it will not appear in Aligned’s submission history. Check your Quarterly Statuses page - the obligation should still show as “Fulfilled” if HMRC received the data.
Can I download my submission receipts?
You can view the full details of each submission by clicking on it. The details include all the information needed for your records.
How far back does submission history go?
Your submission history includes all submissions made through Aligned for the current and previous tax years, based on what is available in HMRC’s records.
