Managing Your Clients
What this is
The Clients page is where you manage the people and businesses you file for. It gives you a single list of every client in your practice, their authorisation status with HMRC, and quick access to upload data or view their details.
What you see on screen
The client list at /app/clients shows a table with the following columns:
- Client name - the name you entered when adding the client
- Authorisation status - whether HMRC has granted you permission to act on this client’s behalf (Authorised, Pending, or Not Authorised)
- Last submission date - when you last submitted data to HMRC for this client
At the top of the page you will find:
- A search bar to filter clients by name
- An Add Client button to register a new client

How to manage your clients
Searching and filtering
- Use the search bar at the top of the client list to find a client by name
- The list filters as you type
Sorting
Click any column header to sort the list by that column. Click again to reverse the sort order.
Viewing client details
Click on a client’s row to open their detail page. From there you can:
- See their full details (name, NINO, authorisation status)
- Start or check the status of HMRC authorisation
- Navigate to upload data for that client
Things to know
- Clients need authorisation before you can file for them. You can add a client at any time, but HMRC submissions require an active authorisation.
- The client list shows all clients in your practice, regardless of authorisation status. Use the status column to see who still needs authorisation.
- Removing a client does not revoke HMRC authorisation - it only removes them from your Aligned account.
FAQ
Can I export my client list?
Client list export is not currently available. You can view and manage all clients from this page.
What does “Pending” authorisation mean?
It means you have started the authorisation process but your client has not yet approved it through their Government Gateway account. See Authorising a Client with HMRC for the full process.
